Job Description

Music Teacher (Instrumental) LONG-TERM SUB

Overview:

The Lancaster Central School District is searching for an enthusiastic individual to serve our District in the music department. We are looking for a 4th, 5th and 6th grade orchestra teacher long-term sub. We are interested in a candidate that is dedicated and willing to commit wholeheartedly to working with our young musicians. We are seeking an outstanding, innovative teacher who will work collaboratively with our administration, faculty and music staff and someone who will be an integral part of our instrumental music team. We need an individual that will continue the high standards and success of our award-winning music program and to help us grow the vision shared by everyone in Lancaster...one of the top communities in America for Music Education.

Tentative Assignment Dates:

    • August 26, 2025 – January 23, 2026

Note: If/when the teacher transitions to a without-pay status, the substitute will become an interim substitute and will be compensated according to the LCTA agreement, as applicable (e.g., Step 1 Master’s Degree = $55,300 prorated to Step 8 Master’s = $58,750 prorated, with full benefits)

Job Qualifications

Qualifications:

New York State Certification as a Music teacher.

Core Responsibilities:

• Create and deliver lessons grounded in researched best practice, current formative data and specially designed instruction.
• Individualize learning experiences, as appropriate, create flexible grouping for learning experience. Observe and evaluate students’ performance in meeting grade level standards.
• Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans, making learning targets clear with students for each lesson as appropriate.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom with appropriate disciplinary techniques.
• Meet course, grade level and district performance goals.
• Create a positive educational environment for students to learn, grow and promote success for students of all abilities.
• Utilize curriculum that reflects the diversity of educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students being served.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and read to stay abreast of current topics in education.
• Work collaboratively with administrators, department chairs and colleagues to create a positive work environment that promotes student achievement.
• Develop and utilize various curriculum resources and participate in curriculum writing/modification sessions.
