Job Description

Overview:
The Principal at William Street School is an instructional leader who creates and maintains a positive and safe environment that promotes high standards of learning. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising students, faculty, and staff. The candidate will also assist in managing resources in accordance with the District’s mission, goals, and policies.

Core Responsibilities:
Provide leadership in curriculum development, instructional strategies, and student achievement initiatives.
Provide leadership in the implementation of the current program and student achievement results and the integration of data analysis into the curriculum development activities aligned with the standards and district goals.
Ensure the effective delivery of the instructional program which meets the needs of all students.
Effectively support teachers and assistant principals in their professional growth and development with the goal of higher student achievement and sense of belonging.
Foster a positive school culture that promotes student engagement, achievement, and well-being.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders and involve them in aspects of the school.
Support and promote special activities in the building that contribute to a positive and comprehensive school experience for the community.
Foster and facilitate an environment that supports a culture and climate that promotes understanding and caring for all stakeholders.
Address and resolve student discipline matters with fairness and consistency.
Manage school operations, including budget oversight, staffing, and scheduling.
Ensure school safety by implementing and maintaining effective security protocols and emergency response plans with assistance from local, state, and federal agencies and organizations.
Oversee state testing administration, ensuring compliance with all regulations and fostering student success.

Job Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
Strength in academic leadership including best practices, curriculum management and development, assessment design and use of data, and knowledge of intervention strategies for both academic and social-emotional learning.
Strong understanding of upper elementary-grade children and developmentally appropriate and evidence-based practices.
Analytical skills to identify areas in need of change and the ability to lead others to make positive change.
Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and de-escalation strategies for working with students and adults.
Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
A valid New York State Certification as a School Building Leader (SBL) or School District Administrator (SBL).
A minimum of eight years of successful experience.
