Qualifications:
NYS Certification as a Special Education teacher (Elementary or Secondary).
Core Responsibilities:
• Create and deliver lessons grounded in researched best practice, current formative data, and specially designed instruction. • Individualize learning experiences, as appropriate, creating flexible grouping for learning experiences. Observe and evaluate students’ performance. • Integrate competencies, IEP goals, and objectives into lesson plans, posting learning goals for each lesson as appropriate. • Manage student behavior in the classroom with appropriate disciplinary approaches. • Meet course, grade-level, and district performance goals. • Maintain grades, grade book (electronic), complete IEP progress reports. • Participate in regular, ongoing professional training, and read and stay abreast of current topics in education. • Work with administrators to ensure district and state initiatives are being met. • Develop and utilize various curriculum resources. Participate in curriculum writing/modification sessions. • Utilize curriculum that reflects the diversity of educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served. • Create a positive educational climate for students to participate in, promoting success for students of all abilities. • Manage implementation of student education plans.
